Finally, the wait is over; the new Android 16 is here, and Google has been rolling out its stable versions in its new Pixel phones. Android is the world's most extensive mobile operating System, and now, with its latest version, Google has introduced several new features that make it easier for any phone user to use. It includes some new features like Live Updates for tracking deliveries and ride-share cars, streamlined notifications, the ability to use desktop-style windows, upgraded security features, native controls for hearing aids, and more.
On Tuesday, Google announced the release of its next Android version, which will first appear on the Pixel 6 and later phones. Google traditionally releases its major Android versions in August or September, but this time, it chose June. Some rumors say that a few days back at WWDC 25, Apple announced its latest iOS 26, so that's why Google chose to release its most ambitious updates in June. A more stable version of Android 16 has been rolling out now, and Pixel phone owners are able to update their Android versions. Other third-party phones will soon get the latest Android support in the coming days this year.
In the official release, Google's VP and GM of Android Platform, Seang Chau, states that "Android 16 lays the foundation for our new Material 3 Expressive design, with features that make Android more accessible and easy to use." Previously, Google use to give desert codenames to its Android versions but not after Android 10. With this new Android 16, google may not officially declared its dessert name but internally it uses, "Baklava" as the codename for Android 16.

Get the latest Android 16 updates on your smartphone. All you need to do is take your Pixel 6 or any later models of the Pixel series, go to Settings, and then choose System. Then you have to find the Software update option and finally click on the Check for update button. You will see that your System is looking for any updates, and when it finds them, it will show on your screen; the new Android 16 takes roughly 2GB of download space. If you don't see the update yet, then you just need to wait since updates are still slowly rolling out to mobile users, and you may soon get it.
Tips:
- Before you download, make sure your phone is on Wi-Fi since it requires high-speed Internet to download and install on your phone.
- Plug your phone in if the battery's low, and back up your data if there's anything critical before you install, just in case; after updates, sometimes data are deleted automatically, so you don't lose them.
- Once the Android 16 is downloaded and installed, a quick reboot should complete the upgrade process.
- Head to the software update screen and follow the on-screen prompts if you own any other Android device.
